Nicholas Mueller

Nicholas is a registered psychologist with extensive experience in psychotherapeutic counselling across diverse communities and a range of issues.

Nicholas approach is based in authenticity, curiosity, creativity, and hope. He believes therapy can be a place for people to explore relationships with themselves and others, navigate change and improve emotional wellbeing. He has assisted people from different age group, cultural background, religion, gender and sexual identities.

Initially educated in psychology at Macquarie University, Nicholas began as a volunteer in crisis support and suicide prevention. He went on to focus on Psychotherapy and Buddhism while working with young people throughout western Sydney. He has worked with refugees and people seeking asylum including at Foundation House and Cabrini. Most recently he has been assisting people living with chronic pain.

As a volunteer with Psychology for a Safe Climate, Nicholas has assisted activists to manage intense emotions related to grief and burnout. He has strong interests in assisting individuals who have struggles with complex trauma, loss and uncertain futures.

In addition, Nicholas’ particular areas of interests include assisting:

  • people exploring neurodivergence;

  • people living with chronic pain, and;

  • with trauma, healing and growth.

Therapeutic Approaches

Nicholas’ counselling practice focuses on supporting individuals to integrate thoughts, feelings, relationships and behaviours. He acknowledges systems that impact us and our behaviour as illuminated by the Power Threat Meaning framework.

His primary therapeutic approaches include:

  • Intensive Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP);

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and;

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Professional Memberships

Nicholas is registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) , and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS). He is a member of IEDTA. 

Personally, Nicholas is a lover of the performing arts, especially music.
